Who We Are

The Lexington Pops Chorus was formed in 1982 around a nucleus of local singers. The Chorus, directed by Robert A. Lague, has two basic ideas that differentiate it from many other choruses - its programs are based on a pops format of both classical and popular music and no auditions are required for membership.

The Lexington Pops Chorus is open to anyone 18 years of age or older.  It is based in Lexington, but fewer than half of its approximately 70 members are from Lexington and more than half have been in the Chorus for longer than 10 years.  Occasionally, artists from outside the Chorus join us in featured roles.

True to pops format, we sing a wide variety of music, including classical, jazz, blues, Broadway and folk.  Our popular "theme" concerts have been "A Night at the Opera", "American Composers" and "The American Civil War".  We have enjoyed singing songs from various countries and in several languages, including Latin, German, Ladino, Spanish, French and Hebrew.  Classical works which we have performed include pieces by Beethoven, Bach, Brahms, Mozart, Rutter and others.  Because of this great variety, we always enjoy great challenges and are always learning and having fun!

Rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings, 7:30-9:30, during the school year at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 55 Coolidge Avenue, Lexington.  The first three rehearsals of each season are open rehearsals in which prospective members may try us out. Performances are at the Hancock Church on the Green in Lexington Center.  Both rehearsal and concert venues are      accessible.
